“The DSS200, accompanied by the recently introduced CP750 Digital Cinema Processor, reinforces Dolby’s leadership in delivering the latest digital cinema solutions to the industry,” said Ramzi Haidamus, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby continues to innovate and deliver a wide range of comprehensive and reliable solutions that simplify and ease the digital cinema transition for exhibitors.”

To date approximately 2,700 Dolby Digital Cinema servers and 1,150 Dolby 3D Digital Cinema systems have been shipped globally.

Dolby is featuring the following products at Cinema Expo 2009, booth number 161:

Dolby Screen Server (DSS200)
The new DSS200 is the all-in-one platform to store, decode, and deliver pristine movies to the digital cinema projector. Based on Dolby’s proven, existing FIPS-certified media block and DCI-compliant server, the DSS200 offers improved storage, serviceability, and interoperability. A storage subsystem moves feature content around the network effortlessly. Flexible serial automation and closed captions support automation and access needs, and the ability to perform software updates remotely makes updates simple. Integrated Dolby Theatre Management System (TMS) software version 4.1 provides a complete, easy-to-use interface for building, scheduling, and monitoring shows locally or remotely, and open web services allow third-party integrators complete control.

Dolby CP750 Digital Cinema Processor
On show for the first time in Europe, the new Dolby CP750 is Dolby’s next-generation audio processor, and extends the company’s commitment to make upgrading both easy and economical in the new digital cinema environment. The Dolby CP750 seamlessly integrates with preshow servers, alternative content, and digital cinema servers. With its easy-to-use interface and powerful setup/remote software, it can play back PCM digital audio; Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic®, Dolby Pro Logic II, and Dolby Digital Surround EX™ streams; and analog audio. In addition, the CP750 can process hearing impaired and visually impaired-narrative. Since the system can be managed by the theatre’s network operations center, the Dolby CP750 can be monitored, controlled, and upgraded from one central location via an Ethernet connection.

Dolby 3D
Dolby 3D is a flexible, high-quality 3D solution that supports both 2D and 3D playback without the need for a dedicated 3D auditorium or a special silver screen, and provides uniform light distribution to deliver an exceptional viewing experience. Using a unique color-filtering technology licensed from Infitec, Dolby 3D offers vivid color reproductions and crystal-clear images. Dolby 3D glasses can be reused repeatedly, providing a compelling and impactful financial model as well as an environmentally friendly 3D solution.

Dolby Theatre Management System (TMS) 4.1 Software
Dolby’s latest TMS software simplifies and streamlines digital screen operations, easily supporting today’s largest multiplexes. From ingesting content and moving it, even while playing, to drag-and-drop show assembly, Dolby TMS software features operational simplicity, at-a-glance monitoring, and fully automatic show operation. Dolby TMS software gives theatre personnel and theatre network operations centers wide-ranging control over all presentations, from a single screen to a large multiplex, or for a system integrator’s complete network. It can also allow remote upgrade and access to Dolby Web Services for integration with third-party systems.

Dolby Direct Distribution Services
Dolby Direct Distribution Services is a pan-European satellite content delivery network for digital cinemas, provided in association with leading digital network solutions provider Arqiva. The service simplifies the cinema distribution process by using Arqiva’s international satellite infrastructure to distribute feature movies, trailers, and advertising content direct to participating exhibitors and cinemas throughout Europe. Coupled with Dolby’s world class JPEG 2000 compression and two-pass encoding system, it delivers Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) efficiently without compromising quality and eliminates the need for physical delivery and manual upload of digital content onto individual cinema servers.
