The Klezmer launches a new album: Meeting Point

The Klezmer Virtuosos at the Peak of Their Art

Montreal, September 21, 2023 – Regarded by many connoisseurs as one of the finest klezmer music groups, Kleztory is back with their new album, Meeting Point. This album marks the reunion of six musicians driven by the desire to create and spread their love for Eastern European music. Meeting Point is also the convergence of six distinct musical journeys, each with its own culture and musical style.

With their seventh album in their discography, Kleztory takes on the challenge of enriching the klezmer repertoire by offering ten original pieces that sometimes flirt with jazz and classical music. It’s a musical offering that mirrors the heightened emotions of klezmer music, which you listen to from start to finish and want to listen to again.

Founded in 2000 in Montreal, Kleztory passionately and virtuosically embodies the music originating from the shtetls — a Yiddish term for small villages or neighborhoods in Eastern Europe. The group represents a rich mosaic of diverse cultural influences and different backgrounds, all infused with eclectic musical orientations – classical, contemporary, jazz, blues, traditional, country, and folk. The ensemble has received three Opus awards (Best World Music Album for Nomade and Momentum, and Best World Music Show) as well as a Fürth Klezmer award.

Kleztory brings together Airat Ichmouratov (clarinet, bass clarinet, and duclar), Elvira Misbakhova (violin and viola), Mark Peetsma (double bass), Mélanie Bergeron (accordion), Raphaël D’Amour (guitar), and David Ryshpan (piano). Meeting Point was produced by Marc Labelle.

Catch them live at the Salle Bourgie on September 21st at 7:30 PM.
