Excited to get your hands on a new Windows 8 tablet later this year? Then you’ll be pleased to hear that Samsung will be one of the first manufacturers to build a slate for Microsoft’s new operating system, according to reports. The tablet is set to be unveiled by Microsoft at the company’s BUILD conference, which kicks off on September 13.
The tablet will be the first time Samsung has collaborated with Microsoft to build hardware, according to the report from The Korea Economic Daily, and will be introduced by Windows chief Steven Senofsky during Microsoft’s BUILD conference.
According to WinRumors, which sites a source familiar with the company’s plans, lucky attendees to the September 13-16 event will also be given one the first Windows 8 tablets, which are said to be powered by an ARM processor and boast “hardware advances or sensors that Windows 8 will take advantage of.”
It’s unclear whether the free tablet will indeed be Samsung’s device, however, the Korean electronics giant took a similar approach to marketing during Google’s I/O developer conference earlier this year, at which it gave out its flagship Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. Though there are hints that it will do the same at Microsoft’s event: The free tablet is said to be a quad-core device that was first introduced during Microsoft’s presentation at Tech-Ed New Zealand last month, which is nearly identical in appearance to Samsung’s new Windows 7 slate (above).
To those of you who are eagerly awaiting a Windows 8 tablet, having Samsung on-board is surely great news. The company already produces two awesome Android tablets, which are some of the best available on Google’s Android OS.
Of course, in addition to Samsung’s tablet, BUILD will also see the unveiling of Microsoft’s new Windows 8 operating system on September 13, and Windows 8 Server on September 14.
