Available now at <\/strong>www.styxworld.com<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, <\/strong>the Universal Music Store<\/strong>, and at shows on their Brotherhood of Rock<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/span> U.S. tour\u00a0\u2014 which includes its only Canadian date this year at Toronto\u2019s Budweiser Stage<\/em> on August\u00a013th<\/sup>\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2014 Circling From Above<\/em> will be released in stores and on all digital platforms on July\u00a018th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s third album in eight years, Circling From Above<\/em> features 13\u00a0tracks that delve into the complexities of the human experience through the intersecting lenses of technology and nature. A true masterclass in musical storytelling, it blends STYX<\/strong>\u2019s signature style with bold new directions, following in the footsteps of their previous albums The Mission<\/em> (2017) and Crash of the Crown<\/em> (2021).<\/p>\n

\"\"The first single, Build and Destroy<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/strong>, sets the tone: a burst of kinetic energy and emotional depth powered by STYX<\/strong>\u2019s unmistakable sound. Produced by Will<\/strong> Evankovich<\/strong>, this collective work reflects the band\u2019s renewed unity, with strong contributions from Tommy Shaw<\/strong>, Lawrence Gowan<\/strong>, and James<\/strong> \u201cJY<\/strong>\u201d Young<\/strong>. The album\u2019s cover art\u00a0\u2014 depicting a murmuration of starlings forming a giant bird above an abandoned satellite\u00a0\u2014 highlights one of the central themes: abandoned human dreams and the impact of our technology on the world.<\/p>\n

For 25\u00a0years, STYX<\/strong> has remained a powerful force on stage, but according to guitarist-vocalist Tommy Shaw<\/strong>, this recent artistic resurgence in the studio stems from a deep sense of harmony within the band. There\u2019s a lot of positive energy right now, says Shaw<\/strong>. Everyone is performing at an incredibly high level. There\u2019s a lot of love, respect, and excitement about each other\u2019s talents. Some bands go their whole lives without ever reaching this kind of chemistry<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Circling From Above<\/em> features all seven current members of the band, including founding guitarist-vocalist James<\/strong> \u201cJY<\/strong>\u201d Young<\/strong> (affectionately known as The Godfather of Styx<\/strong><\/em>), Shaw<\/strong>, original bassist Chuck Panozzo<\/strong>, drummer Todd<\/strong> Sucherman<\/strong>, keyboardist-vocalist Lawrence Gowan<\/strong>, and newcomers Will<\/strong> Evankovich<\/strong> (guitar and vocals) and Terry Gowan<\/strong> (bass). The album was produced by Evankovich<\/strong>, who also produced the previous two albums before officially joining the band.<\/p>\n

The 13 songs were written by various combinations of Shaw<\/strong>, Evankovich<\/strong>, and Gowan<\/strong>. According to Gowan<\/strong>, the creative process is based more on true collaboration than majority rule. On the last three albums, I\u2019ve seen a real desire to make sure everyone feels good about the outcome<\/em>, he explains. There are creative tensions, but everyone has a voice. It\u2019s a very healthy environment. It\u2019s a strange three-way democracy, but we all know that STYX, as an institution, stands above all else<\/em>, adds Evankovich<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
