Audio Technology Switzerland is delivering the first units of its new phono stage the Nagra<\/strong> HD PHONO<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Romanel, Switzerland\u00a0\u2013 November 2023. <\/strong>With more than four years of R&D efforts, Nagra<\/strong>\u2019s new ambitious phono stage is finally in production and first units are shipping worldwide.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The HD PHONO is the ideal companion to the Reference turntable and Reference MC cartridge and, when all three are combined they form the ultimate analog source. Nagra<\/strong>, the reference in analog tape reproduction now offers a reference playback solution for LP lovers<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n

After years of intense research and development, the HD PHONO<\/em> is finally available for discerning listeners of vinyl. It is the ideal complement to the HD<\/em> range and the world-acclaimed HD PREAMP<\/em>, HD DAC\u00a0X<\/em> and HD AMP<\/em> monoblocks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nagra<\/strong>\u2019s first phono stage was derived from the Nagra<\/em><\/strong> IV-S<\/em> reel to reel<\/em> microphone preamplifier stage. It later evolved into the phono section of the legendary Nagra<\/em><\/strong> PL-P<\/em> preamplifier. Ever since, Nagra<\/strong> has worked and improved that original design with the creation of the Nagra<\/em><\/strong> VPS<\/em>. In 2020, after years of extensive research and countless listening sessions, we introduced the Nagra<\/em><\/strong> Classic PHONO<\/em>. It became a new reference in phono playback and achieved acclaim around the world by both press and critical listeners. It remains a benchmark in its class bettered only now by the HD PHONO<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Nagra<\/em><\/strong> HD PHONO<\/em> follows the introduction of the Reference<\/em> turntable and Nagra<\/em><\/strong> MC-4<\/em> moving-coil cartridge. Both the Reference<\/em> turntable and MC-4<\/em> cartridge are state of the art contenders in their own rights and proved to be major assets in the finalization and fine-tuning of the HD PHONO<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The HD PHONO<\/em> is a two chassis design in which the delicate phono stage circuitry is isolated in its own CNC<\/em> machined aluminum chassis.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best of analog is incorporated in the HD PHONO<\/em>. It is dual-mono, pure Class\u00a0A<\/em> with 100\u00a0% tube stages. In addition, it incorporates remote control cartridge load adjustability from\u00a05 to 390\u00a0Ohms, with steps as fine as 5\u00a0Ohms for smaller values. This allows perfect matching between your cartridge and HD PHONO<\/em> stage\u00a0– all confirmed by ear from the comfort of your listening chair.<\/span><\/p>\n

The HD PHONO<\/em> features a new generation of input transformers. Following the original VPS<\/em> transformer and based on the Nagra<\/em><\/strong> IV-S<\/em> microphone input transformers, the HD PHONO<\/em>\u2019s transformers are a fourth-generation design featuring 26\u00a0dB of gain. The new transformer\u2019s core is made with Cobalt and is cryogenically treated over the course of several weeks to improve performance. The transformer itself is hand wound in a very delicate process requiring watchmakers\u2019 type of skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

A second chassis serves to house a massive supercapacitor external power supply. Supercapacitor based power supplies provide all of the advantages of battery-based power supplies with the added advantage of accepting and delivering charges much faster and with higher current load and cycle stability than battery-based power supplies. This power supply is based on those of the HD PREAMP<\/em> and HD DAC\u00a0X<\/em> but features a number of innovations which make it even more silent with improved performance. Both chassis are suspended in a system incorporating a damped, constrained layer platform coupled to four isolator damped towers providing superior vibration resistance.<\/span><\/p>\n
