Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista Debut\u00a0\u2013 North American Launch Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

June\u00a02nd<\/sup> & 3rd<\/sup>, 2023 turned out to be an exciting day. It was the day I attended the North American Launch Event for the new<\/em> NU-VISTA<\/em><\/strong> by Musical Fidelity<\/strong> range, hosted at EQ AUDIO VIDEO<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>(130 Saunders Road, Barrie, ON, CANADA). The event in no small way, was to celebrate the introduction of the Nu-Vista<\/em> PRE<\/em>, PAS<\/em> and PAM<\/em>, Musical Fidelity<\/strong>\u2019s flagship and cost-no-object<\/em> amplifier products.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

EQ Audio Video<\/strong> together with Focal Naim Canada<\/strong> was sponsoring the event, the former a dealer for Focal Naim<\/strong> products, including Naim<\/strong>, and the latter the Canadian distributor. Beyond demonstrating the performance of the new Nu-Vista PRE<\/em> and PAS<\/em>, the event offered door prizes, including: the new award-winning Focal Bathys<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, premium wireless Bluetooth<\/strong> active noise-cancelling headphone C\u00a0$999; as well as, the Musical Fidelity<\/strong> MX-HPA<\/em> tabletop headphone amplifier, along with several other prizes.<\/p>\n

Francois Cauchon<\/strong> and Iain Richardson<\/strong> from Focal Naim Canada<\/strong>, attended this event; there to provide information and answer any questions on the Nu-Vista<\/em> range, as well as accompanying Focal Naim<\/strong> products. There was a relaxed social atmosphere to the event, lending to listening and socializing with fellow audio enthusiasts and Musical Fidelity<\/strong> fans. The hospitality of the hosts extended to providing food and refreshments, including beer, wine and fine offerings of single-malt, whiskey, and rum!<\/p>\n

The Nu-Vista<\/em> system, on demonstration, included the PRE<\/em> preamplifier C$30,000 paired with the PAS<\/em> stereo power amplifier C\u00a0$34,000, each with its matched separate power supply.<\/p>\n

Loudspeakers in play were the Focal<\/strong> Sopra No.\u00a03<\/em> C\u00a0$33,799\u00a0\/\u00a0pr with a digital source comprised of: a Musical Fidelity<\/strong> MX Stream<\/em> C\u00a0$1,429; M6X-DAC<\/em> C\u00a0$3,249; Roon<\/strong> Nucleus+<\/em>; Tidal<\/strong> HiFi<\/em> music streaming and; Audience<\/strong> (frontRow\/Au24 SX<\/em>) cabling.<\/p>\n

Ed<\/strong> put on some choice tracks for my critical listening, in particular:<\/p>\n

Man In the Long Black Coat<\/em>\u00a0\/ Bob Dylan<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 here I heard an immensely deep stage with well laid out and defined soundstage. The tone was warm with engaging details, with lovely string tone and textures evident.<\/p>\n

Mad Fingers Ball<\/em>\u00a0\/ Bjorn Berge<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 proficiency with speed was evident with a punchy and sprite delivery that was warm, rich, and smooth. The pressure of the strings on the fret was well revealed.<\/p>\n

Kiss In Blue<\/em>\u00a0\/ Yellow<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 vocals were open and natural, while well separated and defined. The percussion exceptionally natural in tone and palpable, with a wraparound soundstage, combined with an overall ease of expression.<\/p>\n

Deeper<\/em>\u00a0\/ Peter Balasco<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 lovely flow, expansive with a very solid well controlled bass rumble.<\/p>\n

La Fong<\/em>\u00a0\/ Opiuo<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 very tight controlled electronic bass, room-filling soundstage with remarkable height, \u2018a discoth\u00e8que feel with champagne clarity<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n

The NU-VISTA<\/em> by Musical Fidelity Products<\/strong> launched for North America were:<\/p>\n

Nu-Vista PRE | PRE AMPLIFIER<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (C\u00a0$30,000) a fully balanced, discrete Class\u00a0A<\/em> Preamplifier with separate chassis power supply, based on our excellent Nu-Vista 800<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Nu-Vista PAS | STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER<\/strong><\/a><\/span> (C $34,000) a fully balanced, discrete stereo<\/strong> power amplifier with separate chassis power supply based on the Nu-Vista\u00a0800<\/em> circuit. Based on the Titan<\/em> 1000\u00a0W stage, it delivers its first 5\u00a0W in Class\u00a0A<\/em>, while delivering 300\u00a0W\u00a0\/\u00a0ch\u00a0\/\u00a08\u00a0\u03a9 or 500\u00a0W\u00a0\/\u00a0ch\u00a0\/\u00a04\u00a0\u03a9 with 1000\u00a0W peaks\u00a0\/\u00a0ch\u00a0\/\u00a02\u00a0\u03a9 in stereo operation, with a THD+N<\/em> rating of <\u00a00.003\u00a0%, 20\u00a0Hz to 20\u00a0kHz.<\/p>\n

Nu-Vista PAM | MONO POWER AMPLIFIER<\/strong><\/a><\/span> (C\u00a0$28,000\u00a0\/\u00a0each) a fully balanced, discrete mono<\/strong> power amplifier with separate chassis power supply. Based on the Titan<\/em> 1000\u00a0W stage, it delivers its first 5\u00a0W in Class\u00a0A<\/em>, while delivering 600\u00a0W\u00a0\/\u00a08\u00a0\u03a9 or 1000\u00a0W\u00a0\/\u00a04\u00a0\u03a9 with 1500\u00a0W peaks\u00a0\/\u00a02\u00a0\u03a9, with a THD+N<\/em> rating of <\u00a00.003\u00a0%, 20\u00a0Hz to 20\u00a0kHz.<\/p>\n

EQ Audio Video<\/strong> as mentioned is located north of Toronto, in Barrie, Ontario. This dealer had its start back in\u00a02014, when company founder\u00a0\/\u00a0owner Ed O\u2019Herlihy<\/strong> began operating out of the company\u2019s current location, above his friend\u2019s shop. Ed<\/strong> and his wife Michelle<\/strong> collaboratively run EQ Audio Video<\/strong> and here\u2019s the dynamic duo:<\/p>\n

Entering the location, you make your way up stairs and enter the first demonstration room, the James Room<\/em>. This room is named after Ed<\/strong>\u2019s friend who owned the shop below but who unfortunately passed away 3\u00a0years ago. The room itself was built by the late James<\/strong> and is a tribute to him. In this room, a home theatre and two-channel setup was playing, and included the venerable and sought after Nu-Vista\u00a0800<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 2019\u00a0\/\u00a02020, EQ Audio Video<\/strong> saw its first big expansion, with a new Focal Powered by Naim<\/em><\/strong><\/span> luxury store added, one of only two such exclusive stores in Ontario, Canada. Focal Powered by Naim<\/em> luxury stores, provide customers an opportunity to experience the brands within modern spaces, private listening rooms, headphone bars and other living spaces.<\/p>\n

In keeping with that, EQ Audio Video<\/strong> has a cozy and contemporary space to listen to Focal<\/strong> headphones with Naim<\/strong>. The space includes a beautiful spalted maple epoxy resin headphone bar counter and nook seating.<\/p>\n

Moving further along, we finally make our way through a display area, in which an array of products are arranged, along with a fine offering of liquor. Here also is situated the home theatre rack, including top tier products from Kaleidescape<\/strong>, and TRINNOV<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This brings us to the main attraction, what EQ Audio<\/strong> calls their Focal<\/strong> Utopia Room<\/em>, a multi-channel\u00a0\/\u00a0home theatre and acoustically optimized two channel listening room. This room features Focal<\/strong> 1000\u00a0IWLCR Utopia<\/em> 3-way in-walls for the three front channels, with a pair of Focal<\/strong> 1000\u00a0IWSUB Utopia<\/em> subwoofers and Focal<\/strong> 1000\u00a0IW6<\/em> surrounds, along with a Stuart<\/strong> Harmony<\/em> 150\u201d acoustically transparent screen.<\/p>\n

And on the back wall of this room sat on static display some gorgeous gear including Focal<\/strong> Kanta<\/em> and Naim<\/strong> Classic Series<\/em>.<\/p>\n
