The two have been performing for several years, including a brief US tour this fall and an ongoing European tour, with Mehldau playing Fender Rhodes and synthesizers and Guiliana on drums and effects, as they are on the record. <em>Mehliana <\/em>comprises 12 original tunes\u2014six written by the duo and six written by Mehldau\u2014and was engineered and mixed by Greg Koller (Jon Brion, Kanye West). The vinyl edition of the album, due February 18, includes two 140-gram LPs pressed at Pallas MFG in Diepholz, Germany, and a CD of the album. <em>Mehliana <\/em>is now available to pre-order in the <a href=\"http:\/\/nonesuch.com\/store\/brad-mehldau\">Nonesuch Store<\/a> with an instant download of the album track \u201cHungry Ghost.\u201d Watch a live performance of the complete track from the duo&rsquo;s recent performance at Largo in Los Angeles below.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Mehldau played in a number of different ensembles, including label mate <a href=\"http:\/\/nonesuch.com\/artists\/joshua-redman\">Joshua Redman<\/a>\u2019s quartet, before becoming a bandleader himself in the 1990s. The <a href=\"http:\/\/nonesuch.com\/artists\/brad-mehldau-trio\">Brad Mehldau Trio<\/a>, which tours the world extensively, made eight acclaimed recordings for Warner Bros., including the five widely praised <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/art-of-the-trio-recordings\">Art of the Trio<\/a><\/em> albums with former drummer Jorge Rossy (released as a boxed set by Nonesuch in 2011). The pianist\u2019s nine years with Nonesuch have been equally productive, beginning with the solo disc <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/live-in-tokyo\">Live in Tokyo<\/a> <\/em>and including six trio records <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/day-is-done\">Day Is Done<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/house-on-hill\">House on Hill<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/live-0\">Live<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/ode\">Ode<\/a><\/em>, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/where-do-you-start\">Where Do You Start<\/a><\/em>, as well as a collaboration with soprano Ren\u00e9e Fleming, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/love-sublime-with-renee-fleming\">Love Sublime<\/a><\/em>; a chamber ensemble album, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/highway-rider\">Highway Rider<\/a><\/em>; two collaborations with label mate Pat Metheny, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/metheny-mehldau\"><em>Metheny Mehldau<\/em> <\/a>and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/quartet-1\">Quartet<\/a><\/em>, the latter of which also includes Trio members Jeff Ballard and Larry Grenadier; a CD\/DVD set of live solo performances, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/live-in-marciac\">Live in Marciac<\/a><\/em>; and collaborations with genre-crossing musicians on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/modern-music\">Modern Music<\/a><\/em>, with composer\/pianist Kevin Hays and composer\/arranger Patrick Zimmerli. Additionally, he produced saxophonist Joshua Redman\u2019s 2013 release <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonesuch.com\/albums\/walking-shadows\">Walking Shadows<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Modern Drummer<\/em>, Mark Guiliana is \u201cat the forefront of an exciting new style of drumming.\u201d The New Jersey native\u2019s unique and un-compromised approach to playing the drums has earned him international acclaim as both a leader and a sideman. In 2004, Guiliana created HEERNT, an \u201cexperimental-garage-jazz\u201d trio based in New York. The band\u2019s debut record, <em>Locked in a Basement<\/em>, was called the record \u201cthe most exuberant, dramatic, beautiful, sassy, genre-busting little outing that I&rsquo;ve heard since I don&rsquo;t know when\u201d by legendary drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson). As a sideman, Guiliana\u2019s longest partnership has been with world-renowned jazz bassist Avishai Cohen. He toured all over the world with Cohen from 2003 until 2008, performing on six studio records and a live DVD recorded at the Blue Note in Manhattan. Guiliana has also recorded and\/or performed with Meshell Ndegeocello, Dhafer Youssef, Wayne Krantz, Matisyahu, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jason Lindner, Brad Shepik, Bobby McFerrin, Tigran Hamasyan, and many more. His debut solo record, <em>Beat Music<\/em>, which was co-produced by Ndegeocello, was released in the spring of 2013.
