{"id":15255,"date":"2013-06-28T04:26:49","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T08:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tedpublications.com\/fr\/?p=15255"},"modified":"2013-06-28T04:26:49","modified_gmt":"2013-06-28T08:26:49","slug":"bowers-wilkins-key-to-loudspeaker-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tedpublications.com\/fr\/bowers-wilkins-key-to-loudspeaker-art\/","title":{"rendered":"<!--:fr-->Bowers &#038; Wilkins Key to Loudspeaker Art<!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:fr--><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<br \/>\n<\/span>40 B&amp;W Loudspeakers Underpin Interactiv Exhibit on Loan from MOMAN.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Reading, MA<\/strong> \u2014 <strong>June 2013<\/strong> \u2014 (Tel que re\u00e7u) An \u201caudio-based installation\u201d by renowned Canadian multimedia artist <strong>Janet Cardiff<\/strong>, currently featured at <em>Toronto\u2019s Art Gallery of Ontario<\/em>, depends on 40 classic <strong>Bowers &amp; Wilkins<\/strong> loudspeakers for its involving, enveloping experience. <em>\u201cThe Forty-Part Motet\u201d<\/em> (2001), a past winner of <em>The Millennium Prize of the National Gallery of Canada<\/em> on loan from the permanent collection of <em>New York\u2019s Museum of Modern Art<\/em> until August 18 of this year, is an interactive soundscape that invites listener\/viewers to enter into and explore the matchless musical complexity and timeless beauty of a work by 16th-century British composer <strong>Thomas Tallis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering this rich sonic tapestry, originally recorded to 40 channels at <em>Salisbury Cathedral<\/em> in Salisbury, England, are no fewer than 40 <strong>B&amp;W<\/strong> <em>model DM 303<\/em> two-way speakers, selected by the artist for their industry-standard musical accuracy and human-scale size. Cardiff\u2019s work is a spatial re-imagining Tallis\u2019 famous motet <em>\u201cSpem in Alium\u201d (\u201cHope in Other\u201d)<\/em>, composed around 1573, for eight choirs of five voices each. In <strong>Cardiff\u2019<\/strong>s realization each <strong>B&amp;W<\/strong> speaker carries a single singing voice, permitting viewer \/ listeners to move about the installation, choosing any depth in which to immerse themselves in Tallis\u2019 always-twining, complex, yet transcendently lucid musical counterpoint.<br \/>\n\u201cI wanted to be able to climb inside the music,\u201d artist <strong>Janet Cardiff<\/strong> has said. \u201c<em>Each individual vocalist\u2019s harmony is very clear and full<\/em>.\u00a0 We use <strong>B&amp;W<\/strong> speakers in most of our works because of the quality of sound they deliver.\u201d <strong>B&amp;W<\/strong> North America\u2019s President <strong>Doug Henderson<\/strong> adds, \u201c<strong>Cardiff<\/strong>\u2019s work presents an altogether transcendent way to experience music.\u00a0 The aim of our speaker development has always been to take the listener beyond the artificial to the soul of the performance, so we are thrilled with what she has created.\u00a0 And though the <em>DM 303s<\/em> are long since retired\u2014<em>Forty-Part Motet<\/em> dates from 2001,\u2014they retain impressive detail, depth, and tonal accuracy, even when you highlight a single voice by standing right next to a single speaker.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tedpublications.com\/fr\/actualite\/bowers-wilkins-key-to-loudspeaker-art\/attachment\/_the_forty_part_motet_the_great-hall_wincheste\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15256\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15256\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" alt=\"_The_Forty_Part_Motet_The_Great-Hall_Wincheste\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tedpublications.com\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/The_Forty_Part_Motet_The_Great-Hall_Wincheste.jpg\" width=\"590\" height=\"422\" \/><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Henderson<\/strong> concludes, \u201c<strong>Bowers &amp; Wilkins<\/strong> is honored that <strong>Janet Cardiff<\/strong> selected <strong>DM 303s<\/strong> to present <em>Forty-Part Motet<\/em>; that it springs from the work of a British composer is just icing on the cake.
