While four of the new SL speakers are derivatives of continuing Chrono models, the second-in-line Chrono SL 580 DC floor-standing speaker is a brand new, narrow-footprint design that looks similar to the company’s Karat product family.

« Canton’s high-gloss lacquer finishes are simply beautiful, » said Paul Madsen, the German manufacturer’s US distributor. « Now we can offer this ‘look’ as a much more affordable option to our dealers and customers. In addition, the new Chrono SL 580 DC adds a little spice to the line with a narrow-footprint cabinet reminiscent of our higher end Karat products. »

The new Canton Chrono SL 580 DC uses a tall, narrow enclosure and front baffle with a three-way bass reflex configuration. Outstanding bass reproduction is provided by two 6-inch aluminum woofers that employ Canton’s signature high-excursion Wave Surrounds. A third identical 6-inch aluminum driver operates across the midrange frequencies and is mounted above the tweeter at the top of the baffle. The tweeter is Canton’s classic 1-inch aluminum-manganese model used throughout the Chrono line and many other higher-end Canton speaker lines.

The balance of the Chrono SL family includes the top-of-the-line Chrono SL 590 DC, a floor-standing three-way bass reflex design, the Chrono SL 555 center channel speaker, and the Chrono SL 530 and SL 520 two way pedestal or bookshelf loudspeakers.

The new Canton Chrono SL loudspeakers will be available in September, with suggested retail prices as follows. Canton Chrono SL 590 DC, $3,500/pair, Chrono SL 580 DC, $3,000/pair, Chrono SL 555, $1,000 each, Chrono SL 530, $1,500/pair, and Chrono SL 520, $1,250/pair, all price is on US$.

Canton is the largest manufacturer and best-selling brand of loudspeakers in Germany.
