450 Years of Rogier

Featuring three premiere recordings: Domine Dominus noster, Laudate Dominum and Missa Domine in virtue tua, the latest album from Magnificat – the world’s leading vocal ensemble – marks the 450th anniversary of Philippe Rogier’s birth.

This celebratory album showcases the rich, contrapuntal Renaissance style of Rogier’s music and is bursting with lush textures and colours. Joining Magnificat in this performance is the instrumental group His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts – complete with organ and harp. This full ensemble creates a kaleidoscope of sound and complements Rogier’s intricate compositional techniques which include up to twelve chordal parts; demonstrating Rogier’s position as one of the last great Renaissance composer.

Magnificat’s previous recording of Rogier was described by Gramophone as « lush, glorious, moving and sublime » and their famous recording of Tallis’ Spem in alium « quite the best performance of Tallis’s 40-part Spem in Alium that I have heard. » This latest recording promises to be as good, if not (dare we say) even better, and is available in up to Studio Master 192 quality and on SACD.
