Cisco Announces Availability of New Cloud Platform for Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers That Transforms and Powers the New \u2018Connected\u2019 Home<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Cisco<\/strong> Connect Cloud and array of new mobile apps now available for Linksys Smart<\/em> Wi-Fi Routers bring next-generation wireless home networking to consumers<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Cisco<\/strong> today announced the availability of Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em>, a software platform for Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em> that redefines and dramatically simplifies how consumers connect, control and interact with their connected devices, including personal entertainment and home appliances. Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> is designed to handle all the tiresome and complicated technical aspects of home network set-up and connecting devices to the network. This enables the average person to get on with using and enjoying their Internet service, as well as a wide range of new uses enabled by the home network.<\/strong><\/p>\n Cisco<\/strong> also announced the availability of its Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> mobile app which provides easy access to Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> on a smartphone or tablet, while home or on the go. One breakthrough feature with Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> is SimpleTap\u00e4<\/em>. SimpleTap<\/em> lets consumers connect devices to their Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router<\/em> with as little as one tap of a button or with a quick swipe or scan of a device or tag, making it easier than ever to add devices to the network. Additionally, Cisco<\/strong> unveiled the first set of mobile apps from third party developers that provide extended experiences to Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em>. \nWith the proliferation of mobile devices in the home, consumers are increasingly needing to connect their new devices to the home network \u2212\u00a0a task that many find complicated and time consuming. With SimpleTap<\/em>, connecting devices to the home network is magically simple. When installing new devices such as Smart TV<\/em>s, printers or tablets, anyone can now use the Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> mobile app on their smartphone to get their compatible device connected in a matter of seconds. Connecting is as easy as pressing the virtual Wi-Fi Protected Setup<\/em> button in the mobile app and, in the near future, as easy as scanning a N<\/em><\/strong>ear F<\/strong>ield C<\/strong>ommunications<\/em> (NFC) tag that may be bundled with or integrated in various consumer electronic (CE) products.<\/p>\n
\n<\/em>The six new mobile apps available today can be obtained through the Apple<\/em><\/strong> App Store<\/em> or Google<\/em><\/strong> Play Store<\/em> (formerly known as Android Marketplace<\/em>). These apps can enhance entertainment experiences, make consumers lives easier, and help make the web safer. The spectrum of apps will continue to expand with apps from Cisco<\/strong> and additional third-party developers. The first six mobile apps for Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em> include: Block the Bad Stuff<\/em>, HipPlay<\/em>, Gemini IP Camera Viewer<\/em>, Twonky Video<\/em>, Device Monitoring<\/em> and Netproofer<\/em>.<\/p>\n
\nCisco<\/strong> also announced the opening of its Linksys Developer Community<\/em> to assist app developers interested in working with Cisco<\/strong> to expand the Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> home network platform for Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em>. \n<\/em>Cisco<\/strong> also unveiled the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500<\/em>, the company\u2019s first router powered by the industry\u2019s next-generation 802.11ac wireless technology. Like the other Linksys Smart Wi-Fi<\/em> routers, this new device works with Cisco<\/em><\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> and the associated mobile apps for connected home uses and activities. To work in combination with this ac router, Cisco<\/strong> also announced a new 802.11ac-enabled Universal Media Connector<\/em> for consumers to connect wired devices such as Smart TV<\/em>s and game consoles at wireless Gigabit speeds. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500<\/em> and Linksys Universal Media Connector<\/em> are targeted for availability later this summer.<\/p>\n
