This enables the average person to get on with using and enjoying their Internet service, as well as a wide range of new uses enabled by the home network.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cisco<\/strong> also announced the availability of its <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> mobile app which provides easy access to <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> on a smartphone or tablet, while home or on the go. One breakthrough feature with <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> is <em>SimpleTap\u00e4<\/em>. <em>SimpleTap<\/em> lets consumers connect devices to their <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router<\/em> with as little as one tap of a button or with a quick swipe or scan of a device or tag, making it easier than ever to add devices to the network. Additionally, <strong>Cisco<\/strong> unveiled the first set of mobile apps from third party developers that provide extended experiences to <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em>. There are six new developer apps including an app that lets people search and \u201cbeam\u201d online videos to a <em>Smart TV<\/em> or <em>AirPlay<\/em>\u00ae compatible device, an app that helps install home monitoring cameras and enables monitoring at home and on the go, and apps that give parents easy ways to keep their children safe online, even when mom and dad are not at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We are changing the game when it comes to the connected home, ushering in a whole new level of experiences, simplicity and convenience,<\/em>\u201d said <strong>Brett Wingo<\/strong>, vice president and general manager, <strong>Cisco<\/strong><em> Home Networking<\/em>. \u201c<em>The next-generation connected home is being brought to life for our customers with <\/em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi<em> routers, <\/em><strong>Cisco<\/strong> Connect Cloud<em>, apps and our partnerships across the industry.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>SimpleTap &#8211; Connecting devices with as little as one tap<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em><br \/>\nWith the proliferation of mobile devices in the home, consumers are increasingly needing to connect their new devices to the home network \u2212\u00a0a task that many find complicated and time consuming. With <em>SimpleTap<\/em>, connecting devices to the home network is magically simple. When installing new devices such as <em>Smart TV<\/em>s, printers or tablets, anyone can now use the <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> mobile app on their smartphone to get their compatible device connected in a matter of seconds. Connecting is as easy as pressing the virtual <em>Wi-Fi Protected Setup<\/em> button in the mobile app and, in the near future, as easy as scanning a <strong><em>N<\/em><\/strong><em>ear <strong>F<\/strong>ield <strong>C<\/strong>ommunications<\/em> (NFC) tag that may be bundled with or integrated in various consumer electronic (CE) products.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the importance of superior usability in the connected home, <strong>Cisco<\/strong> has been working with a range of CE device and home appliance manufacturers on partnerships that deliver better experiences to mutual broader set of customers. <strong>Cisco<\/strong>\u2019s newest partnership is with <strong>Onkyo<\/strong>, an international CE manufacturer that has included the <em>SimpleTap<\/em> functionality in their new wireless 7.1 AV Receiver.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>We share the vision that the connected home should be simple and enjoyable, and we are proud to be the first consumer electronics partner to incorporate <strong>Cisco<\/strong> <\/em>Linksys&#8217; SimpleTap<em> technology into our new AV receivers,<\/em>&#8221; said <strong>Nobuaki Okuda<\/strong>, president, <strong>Onkyo Sound &amp; Vision Corporation<\/strong>. &#8220;SimpleTap<em> really simplifies how our new 2012 AV receiver can be connected to the network, so people can instantly enjoy their favorite tunes from music streaming services such as <strong>Slacker<\/strong>, <strong>Deezer<\/strong>, <strong>SiriusXM<\/strong> Internet Radio and many other services.<\/em>&#8220;<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Apps give new levels of control and convenienc<\/strong><\/em>e<em><br \/>\n<\/em>The six new mobile apps available today can be obtained through the <strong><em>Apple<\/em><\/strong> <em>App Store<\/em> or <strong><em>Google<\/em><\/strong><em> Play Store<\/em> (formerly known as <em>Android Marketplace<\/em>). These apps can enhance entertainment experiences, make consumers lives easier, and help make the web safer. The spectrum of apps will continue to expand with apps from <strong>Cisco<\/strong> and additional third-party developers. The first six mobile apps for <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em> include: <em>Block the Bad Stuff<\/em>, <em>HipPlay<\/em>, <em>Gemini IP Camera Viewer<\/em>, <em>Twonky Video<\/em>, <em>Device Monitoring<\/em> and <em>Netproofer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>New Linksys Developer Community Opens<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em><strong><br \/>\nCisco<\/strong> also announced the opening of its <em>Linksys Developer Community<\/em> to assist app developers interested in working with <strong>Cisco<\/strong> to expand the <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> home network platform for <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em>. More information can be found in the press release regarding the launch of the <em>Linksys Developer Community<\/em> and at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/developer.cisco.com\/web\/ldc\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/developer.cisco.com\/web\/ldc<\/a><\/strong>.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>802.11ac Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router and Universal Media Connector<br \/>\n<\/em>Cisco<\/strong> also unveiled the <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500<\/em>, the company\u2019s first router powered by the industry\u2019s next-generation 802.11ac wireless technology. Like the other <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi<\/em> routers, this new device works with <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> and the associated mobile apps for connected home uses and activities. To work in combination with this ac router, <strong>Cisco<\/strong> also announced a new <em>802.11ac-enabled Universal Media Connector<\/em> for consumers to connect wired devices such as <em>Smart TV<\/em>s and game consoles at wireless Gigabit speeds. The <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500<\/em> and <em>Linksys Universal Media Connector<\/em> are targeted for availability later this summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cisco Connect Cloud and Mobile Apps Availability<\/em><\/strong><em><br \/>\n<strong>Cisco<\/strong> Connect Cloud<\/em> is available for free starting today. Current <em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router<\/em> owners will get an automatic update notification or can download the update manually at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.linksys.com<\/a><\/strong>.<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers<\/em> will begin shipping with the <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> software preloaded starting in July. And, they can be purchased at major retailers including <strong>Staples<\/strong>, <strong>Future Shop<\/strong>, <strong>Best Buy<\/strong>, <strong>The Source<\/strong> and <strong>London Drugs<\/strong>, as well as the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linksys.com\/store\" target=\"_blank\">Linksys online store<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The free <strong><em>Cisco<\/em><\/strong><em> Connect Cloud<\/em> mobile app can be installed or downloaded today through the <strong><em>Apple<\/em><\/strong><em> App Store<\/em>, <strong><em>Google<\/em><\/strong><em> Play<\/em> or <strong><em>Amazon\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>Appstore for\u00a0Android<\/em>. The six new developer apps outlined above are either available now or will be shortly.
