He, reluctantly at first, takes on the challenges these superheroes face. Putting his self-doubts aside, and spurred on by his sense of duty and love for his beautiful, intellectually equal, colleague, Carol Ferris, he is soon called to defend mankind from Parallax, a super-powerful being who feeds on fear. He is the universe’s last chance, as many Lanterns have been killed and the Corps is weakened. And he might just be the right Lantern for the job of keeping the world safe from harm.

My Take:
As far as park-you-brain-at-the-door movie, this movie is surprisingly good. Of course there is no real story per-se but the mindless battles and comedic touch is a welcome change to the overtly serious tone approach that’s been used for all the Marvel superheroes movie. The picture quality is decent although not mind blowing with CGI and live action blend ranging from ridiculously apparent to highly transparent.

It is hard not to be impressed with the innate quality of lossless surround sound as this type of movie benefits from its inherent attributes. The sonic activity through out the movie is engaging and the active surround mix that has extended dynamic range renders the movie’s action based elements amazing although not to the point of jaw-dropping. There are several sequences that effectively transform the room into a three dimensional sound field filled with immersive half-dome 360 degree surround activity that engage the listening position from multiple directions. LFE channel produce deep, authoritative bass that energizes the room. This is a rewarding and dynamically enhanced sound design that features high level sonic detail, excellent directional correlation, and rhythmically charged bass that makes for an involving audio presentation in my theatre room.

Equipment used for this review:
• Anthem MRX-700 Receiver
• Grandviewscreen 96” 21:9 matte-white 1.0-gain screen
• PSB Century 300i (front and surround speakers)
• PSB Image C5 (centre speaker)
• PSB Subseries 300 (subwoofer)
• Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector
• Pioneer BDP-LX55 BD player
• Ultralink Ambiance MKII speaker wires
• Viewing room is as per THX and SMPTE recommendation with 45-degree Field of View

Audio: 8/10
Video: 8/10
Storyline: 7/10

Studio and Year: Warner – 2011 MPAA Rating: PG-13 Feature running time: 123/114 minutes Genre: Action/Fantasy Disc Format: BD-50 Encoding: AVC/MVC Video Aspect: 2.40:1 Resolution: 1080p/24 Audio Format(s): English DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio, Spanish/French Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: English SDH, French, Spanish Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, […]

[20,5,21
