Although Yamaha<\/strong>\u2019s MusicCast Wireless Audio System<\/em> was unveiled in August, the manufacturer announced only this week the availability of its MusicCast<\/em> wireless speaker, the WX-030<\/em>, an exceptionally versatile powered unit which may be used as a standalone music system or alternately can be linked to other MusicCast<\/em> products bringing music to every room in a home. By either using a Wi-Fi<\/em> home network or a Bluetooth<\/em>\u00ae<\/sup> connection, the speaker streams music while offering intuitive control via a free app available for Apple\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> iOS<\/em> and Android\u2122<\/em> devices.<\/p>\n

This MusicCast<\/em> wireless speaker is the first one of the more than 20\u00a0MusicCast<\/em>-enabled products \u2014\u00a0including AV<\/em> receivers, wireless speakers, sound bars, Hi-Fi<\/em> components and powered monitor speakers\u00a0\u2013 that will be available by the end of 2015. The breadth of MusicCast<\/em> products allows users to easily play music and any other audio content wirelessly throughout the home.<\/p>\n

Having MusicCast<\/em> onboard enables users to effortlessly stream music from mobile devices and computers, as well as from music services such as Pandora\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>, Spotify<\/strong>, Rhapsody\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> and SiriusXM<\/strong> Internet Radio. When the MusicCast<\/em> speaker is linked to other MusicCast<\/em> components, such as a sound bar or AV<\/em> receiver, the speaker can also play audio from the external sources connected to those components.<\/p>\n

Available in solid black or white with silver accents, the MusicCast<\/em> speaker has a stylishly understated design that beautifully complements any home d\u00e9cor and features touch-sensitive buttons on the top panel for easy operation of power, volume and play\/pause controls.<\/p>\n

The speaker uses a 2-way speaker design with a large passive radiator and Yamaha <\/strong>exclusive digital sound processing technology to deliver amazingly clear, room-filling sound. Unlike other wireless speakers on the market today, it supports true high-resolution audio formats to deliver more accurate reproduction of sonic details, presence and atmosphere. It is compatible with Apple\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> Lossless <\/em>(ALAC<\/em>) up to 96 kHz \/ 24-bit, as well as FLAC<\/em>, AIFF<\/em> and WAV<\/em> files up to 192 kHz \/ 24-bit. When playing back compressed music files like MP3<\/em>s, the onboard music enhancer restores sharpness to the highs and fills out the mid-range of musical performances compromised through the file compression process.<\/p>\n

The MusicCast<\/em> speaker supports Bluetooth<\/em> playback and can re-stream Bluetooth<\/em> content to other linked MusicCast<\/em> speakers and components when on the Wi-Fi<\/em> network. This not only opens the system to a huge range of content options, but also enables a simple way for friends to \u201cguest DJ<\/em>\u201d without hosts needing to provide Wi-Fi<\/em> access. It can also be used as a standalone Bluetooth<\/em> speaker \u2014\u00a0even when off the Wi-Fi<\/em> grid.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, the MusicCast<\/em> speaker can output a Bluetooth<\/em> stream from Wi-Fi<\/em> connected sources, allowing transmission to other nearby Bluetooth<\/em> speakers or headphones.<\/p>\n

The intuitive and graphically appealing MusicCast<\/em> app for Apple<\/strong> and Android<\/em> smartphones and tablets lets users browse and access content to play in one or multiple rooms. The app\u2019s attractive interface offers numerous personalization features. For instance, the Rooms<\/em> menu can be customized with pictures from the user\u2019s own home while the source buttons can be renamed, associated with a selection of icon images, order sorted or even hidden.<\/p>\n

The speaker also offers a standard RJ-45 Ethernet<\/em> jack for those who prefer a wired network connection, and it is equipped with a \u00bc\u201d, 20-threaded hole on the back panel that enables it to be wall mounted using commercially available brackets.<\/p>\n

By the end of 2015, a software update will be released that will enable left-right pairing of two MusicCast<\/em> wireless speakers for those seeking stereo reproduction for a larger sound stage.<\/p>\n
